Owen Hughes

Mission Support Worker

Born in Bridgend, Owen grew up in South Wales, in a Christian home, where he attended a local school in Vale of Glamorgan. Although growing up in a Christian home, he decided to go his own path following the world until coming back home from his first year of university. He served within the Bridgend – Louisiana Church partnership where he realised the importance of sharing the gospel and was inspired by the team from the USA to recommit his life back to Christ.

Owen completed a Bsc in Sport Business Management at the University of Worcester and was then accepted onto an Internship at First West Baptist Church of West Monroe Louisiana. Whilst working within the Student ministry and coaching American football and Soccer, he felt the call to full time ministry whilst in the USA.

Since coming back from the USA, Owen has worked for Missional Links Wales as an Operations Assistant and, from September 2018, as a Mission Support Worker. Owens role is to facilitate communication with possible interns from the USA, whilst also developing and co-ordinating Youth and Schools work across the Bridgend church partnership throughout the year.

Owen is also on staff at a local church in Ogmore-by-Sea as the Church Family Worker. He will be getting married to his American fiancé Caitlin in 2019.

Outside of ministry, Owen enjoys his sport.  Having played American football both at University and in the British American Football Premier League as a Linbacker/ Strong Safety.  However, after two cruciate surgeries he decided it was best to go back to playing soccer.
